Harley starter assembly help ?

how to re assembly the starter 2001 fLth bike . there is 2 coupling's inter %26amp; a outer thay both have a long inside of the coupling . ? do the long side go to the starter side ? . mike321mm@yahoo.com

I do have a Manual on this bike .. hey man thank for the info . but I do have the manual . and it dont tell me

This is the same pic thats in my manual . the pic shows part number 450 %26amp; 300 . and there is 2 ways that thay can go in . thank you for your timeHarley starter assembly help ?
If I understand what your asking then its the coupler that goes inbetween the starter and the inner primary and the second goes inside the inner primary.



the first coupler the long side goes toward the primary and the second goes long side toward the starter.



the first coupler should fit flush against the starter and on the second coupler the jackshaft should fit flush against the inner primary when pushed in against the spring.



remember to torque the jackshaft 60~80 inch pounds only or it will bind up when you hit the start button.Harley starter assembly help ?
