How do you teach a youth how to become a better dribbler and shooter in basketball?

My son loves basketball and he is pretty good, but he lacks the confindence that is needed and sometimes he gets too excited and ends up turning the ball over. I am looking for so dribbling drills and shooting drills. This way his confince level will rise and he will be the basketball player that I know that he is.How do you teach a youth how to become a better dribbler and shooter in basketball?
For your son's excitement which leads to turnovers, that would improve with more game experience. School teams, travel teams, city rec teams, and pickup ball at the park, etc... will all help ease the excitement and give him more coaching and experience from more people. Playing or even just shooting around with him will also help, just make it fun and the more he practices and gets better the more interested he'll get. The best way to improve dribbling is practice, practice and more practice just dribble the ball around, both hands with his head up. Play a little defense on him and make him dribble around you, changing hands, speed and direction. For shooting I recomend stessing learning proper form, shooting using only one hand to push the ball with the off hand as a guide hand, not touching the ball on release. It is important to grip the ball putting the side seams in the off hand to help make sure he has a good spin on the ball for a straighter shot, you want the ball to rotate straight on the seams and you will be more accurate. Start close shooting one hand only, just flipping the wrist and using the legs for lift, then introduce the guide hand. Make sure he's not pushing the ball with both hands and jumping up, not fading back or to the side. Let me know if you need any more suggestions, I don't know how old he is so it depends on his age...
if to this website n buy the DVD it will help alot http://betterbasketball.com/How do you teach a youth how to become a better dribbler and shooter in basketball?
practice dribbling eyes closed and learn spider-web dribbling for hand-eye coordination. Shooting is all about form and practice. Forget dvd's send him to camp
dribbling is important, it's the first thing he should learn. teach him to dribble by using his fingers, this should improve his control to the ball, then practice dribbling while running, then change direction, the technique is to not let the ball touch the pal,it should always be controlled by his fingers, then practice changing hands, then try it while walking or running. Shooting the ball can be learned by lot's of practice, just watch his form and release, just remember that the power should come from the knees...lastly you should support him and have fun...How do you teach a youth how to become a better dribbler and shooter in basketball?
I would recommend making him practice 18 hours a day and whenever he makes a mistake you need to whip him

Sleep with the ball.It worked for Magic Johnson.
Watch basketball games!!

and for me im a basketball player.

experience is the best teacher.
let him watch basketball games
Practice, practice, practice with his head up using both hands. Let him play as much basketball he can. Buy Pete Maravich Dvd that will really help him. put him in camps and practice.
PRACTICE DRIBBLING LOW TO THE GROUND in a figure 8 around your legs.
practice, practice, practice. if you work hard enough at it you will learn. Never give up!!!
Well, if you lived in chicago, i would tell u to make him enroll in bulls/sox academy. They hel with everything, shooting, dribbling, passing.
Enroll him at a basketball clinic. These clinics are handled

by former basketball players who teach the basics of the

game. Don't let him play or practice by himself for he might

just acquire a bad habit that cannot be corrected even

when he becomes a high school or college player.
you tell him shoot the ball man like kobe dont pass dribble dribble some more and shoot it a lot tell him to say give me damn ball so i can be like kobe look at me i make big points yes its true and practice yes maybe make rings someday too work hard good luck man
