Don't do it.

In the end you will spend more money because the official importer will not provide any services, including firmware updates or sometimes "factory" service even if you are willing to pay for.

Gray market cameras and accessories are far from being half price ... more like about 15% ot 20% less. Over the lifetime of the camera you will find it was not a barginImport nikon digital slr?
I concur--grey market camera bodies are usually not worth the slight reduction in price, usually 10-15%. Besides no warranty support, no grey market camera comes in a 1/2 the price of a genuinely imported camera.

As for the menu issue, it will depend on the grey market importer and on the specific camera.

When it comes to decent grey market imports, I have had good luck with lenses. I wouldn't try it with a camera body though.
