Whats the difference between a Walkie Talkie and a 2 Way Radio ?

I want to know because I want to know what im buying.Whats the difference between a Walkie Talkie and a 2 Way Radio ?
Walkie Talkies are 2 way radios.



The main difference is that when folks talk about them, walkie talkie is just a generic or slang term for hand portable two way radios.

The term also normally implies non professional, licence free, consumer grade or "toy" equipment.



When people refer to "two way radios" they are generally talking about professional licenced equipment.



It get's a little confused during conversation as the terminology is used by different people in different ways.

A walkie talkie was usually a hand held CB radio. A two way radio was of higher quality and used much higher frequencies.
