Definitely go with the GMRS/FRS two-way radios. You can find one's with at least 5 mile range for about $25 for a pair. Since you dont' want to take your hands off you marker, you can get some VOX enabled (voice activated) headsets. The headsets run about $10-30 each.

What is a good affordable walkie talkie set up for paintball?Just about any two way hand held radio will work so long as you get ones that have a good 5 mile plus range. I just recommend that you make sure that they are all the same brand and model or else you may have problems like channel 15 on some are like channel 27 on others. That鈥檚 just and example.
i dont want 2 sound like a jackas*, but sersously why the hell do you need walkie talkies? all u do is yell
maybe its just me but if some 1 has me underfire i'd rather call out"i need help" then get on the walkie talkie, just to tell the guy 15 ft behind me that i need help... its just another thing ot go haywireWhat is a good affordable walkie talkie set up for paintball?
I disagree with Chuck! I played paintball on 500+ meter fields (quite big) using high-end Motorola FRS/GMRS radios with headsets. It won us the tournament because we could communicate within our two sub-teams at opposite sides of the field (each team came in from the side of the play area instead of the middle). I strongly suggest radios on large fields with sub-teams.
Have fun!
