i was looking at getting a pair of doro walkie talkie watches only to find out that they've been discontinued. can anyone tell me another brand pair that will work well?Walkie Talkie Watches - Whats a good pair to buy?
Walkie talkie watches never work well. Anyway, Audiovox also was in the market 3 years ago. Xax and Bellsouth but they should have been discontinued too.

If i bought a walkie talkie from America with channel scan capability would it work in Australia?
No. The Channel Scan function basically just constantly loops through all of the channels on the radio (typically 15-22 for a consumer radio) until it finds one that is receiving a message. Since the channels on Australian radios typically use different frequencies than the channels on radios from the United States the scan function would not pick up Australian transmissions.
I know the police can ping a cell phone, Can they ping a nextel walkie talkie too?
I was wondering if that is possible?I know the police can ping a cell phone, Can they ping a nextel walkie talkie too?
If you mean a phone nextel, yes. If you just mean a regular walkie talkie, no, but they can listen in on the conversation.muffler

Do I need a license to use a walkie talkie?
I have bought a set of NE-358 Walkie-Talkies I don't know much about them but they are 499-480 MHz...I think I need a liscense to use them but am unsure about what type and how to get one.Do I need a license to use a walkie talkie?
Those radios transmit on many different services. Many are law enforcement, amateur, commercial, and other services...use of the radios could get you fined or imprisoned.
Private citizens are not authorized on most of the frequencies. All you could use it for is amateur radio, but you need a license. While FRS/GMRS operate in the range you mentioned, these radio are not type-accepted for use on those services.
i don't think you do need one you just need to make sure your not on the same frequency as the police, or you local taxi service. You may still need one if it was a CB radio.Do I need a license to use a walkie talkie?
just use them because otherwise they wouldnt sell you them like they dont sell you guns without proof of licesnse
If you are sure about the 400 - 480 MHZ frequency range, you probably will need a licence in the US. This frequency range covers the many bands that would require a licence such as the 70cm Ham band.
While it is legal to purchase these, and listen to the transmissions, to talk on them would require a licence for much of the frequency range 400-480 MHZ.Do I need a license to use a walkie talkie?
no well not in Canada but i'm not sure about the United States of America
Hmm well if you are in the UK, thats right in the middle of the tv bands!!
Judging by the frequency range, these sound like Amateur Radio walkie talkies. Yes, you need an FCC license to operate these.
You can go to the NARL website (http://www.narl.net/) and look up the license requirements. As a former "ham" radio license holder, I can tell you that you used to have to pass some pretty stringent exams showing knowledge of electronics to get this license; however, the "Morse code'" portion of this requirement has been (thankfully) dropped.

Whats the difference between a Walkie Talkie and a 2 Way Radio ?
I just want to know because im not sure what I am buying.Whats the difference between a Walkie Talkie and a 2 Way Radio ?
"2way radio" is usually a fix radio or a mobile radio
"walkie-talkie" is usually a hand held portable radio.
Walkie talkie was coined during WW2, but continues today.
"Walkie-Talkie" can also be called a "hand held", Motorola calls it a "Handie-Talkie (HT)" GE/Ericson calls it a "Personal Communicator (PC)".
They are ALL 2 way radios because they transmit AND receive.Whats the difference between a Walkie Talkie and a 2 Way Radio ?
I do not know if you like to read about stuff, but try this website, it is LOADED with information that can help you distinguish a walkie talkie (WWII era) and two way radio (police)..
